Description
Sepia mounted photograph of the 1893 class standing at entrance to school on steps. School is identified as Alamo Center School, Alamo Township, Michigan. View includes snow on the ground. Boys wear suits and girls dresses. The teacher is identified as Austin Grovsner Harmon by handwritten text along the lower edge of the photograph. Standing in the back of the group, he is identified by glasses and a “walrus” style moustache. One of the students in the first row holds a blackboard with text reading “Dis #1, Alamo 1893”. Alamo Center School opened in 1873, located on D Avenue west of 6th Street, Michigan. Austin H. Harmon was a teacher at the Alamo Center School only for the 1873 winter term.
