Black-and-white photograph of interior hall of Uptown Theatre located on the southwest corner of Eleanor and North Burdick Streets, Kalamazoo, Michigan. View looks toward the Lounge stairway entrance. The lobby was designed in an Art Deco style. The view features abstract patterned carpet, floor flower bouquets, a ticket taker, and a poster for the movie "Golddiggers in Paris" (aired for general released on June 11, 1938). The photograph was possibly taken approximately around the theatre's opening in August 1938. The building was once a commercial building (The Wheeler Blase Company) until it was refurbished by architects Stewart-Kingscott Company. The theatre operated from August 24, 1938 to June 6, 1959. (This photograph is a duplicate of image p-0008549 which differences in lighting and tint.)
