Photograph of the Richland District #5 school. It was the only Richland district to build a brick school. In 1883 voters approved proposal to build a new building for a sum not to exceed $4,000. When all bids came in higher the school directors dicided to build it themselves. Land was pruchased from S.P. Jewett. Materials and bricks were hauled in by rail, wages for labor began at $1.50 a day and later incresed to $2.50. Teamsters earned more. The Italian revival architectual style building served students from 1884 to 1923. Text on folder: "P378, Abandoned District #5 School, (1920s)."
