Dr. Phillip R. Shriver speaking from a podium at the 1967 Mid-December Commencement held in the Read Field House at Western Michigan University. Behind him sits faculty in academic regalia. Shriver was president of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Dr. Shriver earned his bachelor's degree at Yale University, his master's from Harvard University and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Prior to assuming his post at Miami, he was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Kent State University.
