R. H. C. Davis's field notebook surveying architecture throughout parts of Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, and Morocco. His title from the inside front cover reads: "Vol 33". The entries begin on June 21, 1978 and continues intermittently to August 24, 1982, and then skip to July 15 and 16, 1989. The entries are written on the front of the page with corrections or later additions from research added on the back. The notebook begins with a bibliography list of sources consulted and is followed by the main entries. Most entries start with a chronology of key dates related to the building's history such as when the building was raised, when it was destroyed, ownership history, and when reconstructions and restorations were made. The chronology is followed by a summary of architectural elements based on observations and research and, occasionally, reinforced with illustrations. A major theme is an analysis of the historical evidence for each site in order to place the "phases" of building into history. Other themes include "striking" features, examinations of mason marks, a critical look at other researcher's interpretations and conclusions, his own theories and conclusions, historical context, the uses and functions of certain features, and references to archeological finds. Throughout the notebook are inserted materials. The majority of the text is written in English with some place names or inscriptions written in Spanish, Latin, or French.
