Accounting journal recording the dispursement of money and materials to poor persons of Kalamazoo County between 1838-1859. The expenses listed include room and board, meals, fabric for clothing, funeral clothing, tobacco, medicine, transportation and others. Some entries contain brief, detailed summaries of the transaction. Later pages of the journal list a memorendum of bills unconnected with the Poor House. The entries are listed in chronological order, no index. On the first page, handwritten in ink, is a list of Superintendents on January 1, 1847 for Kalamazoo County. On the reverse side, written in pencil, are a list of the names of paupers at the poor house on November 7, 1851.
Physical Description:
The journal is 370 pages of handwritten, calligraphic cursive, and measures 8.5 x 12.5 inches. The cover is worn and sewing threads are visible.
