Description:
Computer enhanced example of a tintype (also known as a ferrotype or melainotype), an early photographic process dating from 1856. This example is of a U.S. Civil War Union soldier from circa 1864, noted as being in Co. "G", 24th New York Calvary. The actual tintype measures approximately 2.5 x 4 inches, and from examination can be seen to be hand colored.
