Founders of the church were settlers from Hudson, Ohio. The conjoining of both denominations were called Presbygationalists. Under the pastorate of Milton Bradley, at a cost of $7,000, the church was dedicated on 27 February 1861. The original bell cracked and was replaced in 1881. In 1886 the bell tower was reduced in height 30 feet. In 1952 the interior was altered, but the original pews remained.
