Black-and-white print of two unidentified men standing beside a flat bed truck with a box labeled with Kalamazoo State Hospital. In the truck bed are two large wooden barrels. Behind the men and truck is one of the state hospital buildings. The Kalamazoo State Hospital, founded as the Michigan Asylum for the Insane, was renamed in 1911 and later became known for pioneering improved medical treatment of mentally ill patients. The hospital also was a pioneer in the creation of nursing and occupational therapy programs.
