Photograph view looking down East Campus hill. The Redpath Chautauqua circult was a traveling group who presenting music dramas, usually school sponsored. This was an adult education movement in rural America that brought entertainment and culture to the community with speakers, musicians and showman. Kalamazoo’s first Chautauqua was held in 1909 and later in 1909. Western State Normal School sponsored the Redpath Chautauqua to come over the next fourteen years until its last appearance in 1926. The image appeared in the book Kalamazoo Lost and Found by Kalamazoo Historian Lynn Houghton.
