Brown cover album of black and white photographs featuring photographs from Asia and Hawaii. In the 1950s, Merze Tate was a Fulbright Scholar and lecturer for the U.S. Information Agency and visited India, Thailand, Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The album opens with clippings about the reopening of Kashmir after a Pakistani raider invasion. The majority of the photographs feature Jawaharlal, the president of Indian National Conference and later India’s first prime minister. The remaining photogarphs feature a crowd with signs, which include the word “Conference” and “convene constituent assembly”; mountains and trails in India, views of Bangkok; a river market; Angkor Wat; portraits of tourists; Avantipur; Martand; Achhabal; Pahalgam; Shalimar; Nishat Bagh (Pleasure Garden); Dal Lake monuments; Gulmarg (Meadow of Flowers); views of families living on river boats; religious archetecture from South Asia; and views of Angkor Thom, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Interspersed among the views of Asia are photographs of Hawaii featuring views of the craters and steam vents and sulfer banks at Volcanoes National Park.
