Description:
Scrapbook of black and white photographs of a variety of places Merze Tate traveled between 1931 and 1932. In the summer of 1931, Merze Tate took an eight week tour of Europe. Her passage began in Canada to Cherbough (France). From there, she took a train to Paris and 14 other countries ending in Liverpool. The first half of the album features photographs of her passage on the SS Montrose from Montreal to France, monuments and historical sights from Paris, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, England, and Quebec. In 1932, she took forty students by train from Indianapolis to Washington D.C. as part of the Crispus Attucks High School Travel Club. The second half of the album features views of United States landmarks viewed from the train, and monuments in Washington D.C and Maine. Other photographs feature views from across North America including Pike’s Peak, the Garden of the Gods (Colorado), the 10th Olympiad Los Angeles, and group pictures with Native Americans taken at an unknown location.
